The district prison has only two rooms, one for female and another for male prisoners. Following the incident, the prison authority transferred the only female prisoner to the administration office. The twelve male prisoners have been divided into two groups and kept separately.

As the prison security arrangement proved to be inadequate, the district police office has deployed 25 additional police personnel.

Thapa said that the administration had been planning to transfer some of the prisoners to Banke and Bardia as the prison does not have enough resources. All the injured inmates have been taken back to the prison after treatment.

The administration has said it is investing the incident.
