KATHMANDU, Dec 7:  Silver Heritage Group, the promoter of Millionaires' Club and Casino at Hotel Shangrila, has warned that it would pull investment from Nepal after workers affiliated to CPN-UML and UCPN (Maoist) parties allegedly threatened casino officials with physical harm.

The Hong Kong-based multinational company has so far invested Rs 4 billion in the casino. It has announced plan to invest Rs 15 billion in hospitality sector.

The employees of the only casino in the country have been obstructing its operation for the last two months, putting forward a set of demands motivated by political interests.

Hugh Holmes, one of the directors at Silver Heritage, has warned that Silver Heritage would withdraw investment from Nepal. Hugh, a US national, is the chief investor of Silver Heritage.

Rajendra Bajgain, who looks after the management of the casino, told Republica that Holmes has already informed US Embassy in Kathmandu about the threats.

“We have been receiving threats on a daily basis. We feared for our life after stones were pelted in the casino,” Bajgain said. “We cannot do our work if our lives are at risk.”

Quoting Holmes, Bajgain said there is no safe environment to work. “If the situation persists, we will withdraw our investment,” Bajgain quoted Holmes.
