KATHMANDU, Sep 5: Chinese airline company Sichuan Air is set to introduce a connecting flight between Nepal and Sydney, Australia, starting in October. Society International Travel Services, the official General Sales Agent (GSA), confirmed that the airline, which currently operates seven weekly flights between Chengdu and Kathmandu, will extend its services to include Sydney.

Rabi Chandra Singh, the director of Society International Travel Services, expressed the company's intention to cater to the Nepali community residing in Australia. "With the launch of this Sichuan flight to Sydney, we anticipate a further reduction in passenger fares," Singh stated.

Presently, the fares for connecting flights departing from Nepal have been maintained at a minimum of Rs 89,000. Notably, airlines like Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines, and Air India are already offering flight services to Australia.

The expansion of flight services to Australia aligns with the easing of COVID-19 restrictions and the reopening of China's border. Airlines such as China Himalaya, China Southern, Sichuan Air, Air China, Tibet Air, among others, have resumed regular operations between China and Kathmandu. As a result, the Tribhuvan International Airport is currently hosting a total of 46 daily international flights.
