Shrestha maintains lead

KATHMANDU, Feb 14: Defending champion Shiva Ram Shrestha submitted a card of one-over 68 on Tuesday to take one-stroke lead after the second day of the NPGA President´s Cup at the Royal Nepal Golf Club (RNGC).



RNGC pro Shrestha tops the leader board with a total of three-under 131 and maintained one-stroke lead over club-mate Ramesh Nagarkoti, who played one-under 66 for the total of two-under 132. [break]



Dharan pro Mani Rai is third at even-par 134. He played even-par 67 on Tuesday. Toran Bikram Shahi and Ram Thapa shared the fifth position at one-over 135, while Umesh Nagarkoti, Dhana Thapa and Yelamber Singh Adhikari are tied for sixth with the score of two-over 136.



Ramesh Adhikari is ninth at 138, while Rabi Khadka is 10th with the score of 139. Others who made the cut for the final round are Ram Krishna Shrestha, Deepak Neupane, Jaya Ram Shrestha, Dhruba KC, Suman Rai, Bishnu Neupane, Sanjay Lama and Rajan Thapa.



Nepal No 1 Shiva Ram Shrestha failed to repeat his first day´s performance and faltered to 68. He started the day with a triple bogey on the par-4 first hole but recovered to finish the front nine at one-over 34. He carded three straight birdies on the second, third and fourth holes and added another on the seventh hole.







Shrestha also had bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes. On the back nine, he eagled the 10th hole but immediately made double-bogey on the 12th. Shrestha had a birdie on the 13th and a bogey on the 15th hole as he finished the last nine holes at even-par 34.



Ramesh, who hit second straight one-under 66, played two-under 31 on the front nine and one-over 35 on the back.



In amateur section, Bikash Bogati carded two-over 69 for a total of eight-over 142 to take three-stroke lead over Ashish Pariyar. Both Bogati and Pariyar are selected from the Surya Nepal NGA Youth Development Program for the 2014 Asian Games camp.



Pariyar played a round of six-over 73 for the total of 145. Wangchen Dhondup is third with 146, while Sunil KC, Tashi Tsering and Jeevan Rai also made the cut for the final round.



The tournament, which is featured by 24 professional and 21 amateur golfers, carries a total purse of Rs 200,000 and the winner will get Rs 44,000.
