KATHMANDU, Sept 26: Even as the talks between the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) and the agitating CPN-Maoist led 33-party alliance failed to make any headway, senior leader of the UCPN (Maoist) Narayan Kaji Shrestha on Thursday called a meeting with the agitating group in a bid to persuade them into joining the election process. However, the meeting did not take place due to the busy schedule of the agitating parties.

Shrestha had called the meeting at his residence in Harisiddhi . “A formal meeting would be held soon with the agitating group,” said Shrestha. [break]

Shrestha during the talks between HLPC and the agitating alliance had said that it would be a huge mistake to hold elections without participation of the Mohan Baidya-led alliance. He had argued that HLPC should ask Chairman of the Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi to resign as the chief justice.

The talks between HLPC and the agitating alliance had faltered over the issue of Regmi´s resignation as the chief justice.
