Constituent Assembly Chairperson Subash Chandra Nembang inaugurated the two-day event amid a function.
Speaking on the occasion, Nembang said the district holds a huge potential for tourism development that was yet to be exploited.[break]
The event features around 100 stalls showcasing local products like allo slippers, shoes, T-shirts, coats and trousers priced in the range of Rs 500 to Rs 7,000. The stalls also feature local food items and locally made metal products.
Tikaram Gurung, coordinator of the event, told Republica that the district is home to more than 400 species of birds, 84 types of fish and 23 species of butterflies. Also known as the rhododendron valley, the district also boasts some famous religious destinations in the country.
Shankhuwasabha is famous for cardamom and rudraksha production and is also considered a favorite habitat for endangered red panda, snow leopard and Himalayan black bear.
"World´s deepest Arun Valley and the Shivadhara Fall are other famous tourist destinations in the district," Gurung added.
Organizers are expecting a footfall of more than 100,000.
