Shahi wins gold at Korea Open Taekwondo

KATHMANDU, Sept 3: Nepali taekwondo star Manita Shahi won gold medal in the Sixth International Korea Open Taekwondo Championship in Gumi, South Korea on Friday to add yet another feather to her cap.



According to Nepal Taekwondo Association, Shahi defeated her Thai opponent in the final of women´s 62 kg. She had defeated a Japanese player in the semifinal of the event. [break]



The 10th South Asian Games (SAG) gold medalist and 15th Asian Games bronze medalist Shahi was limited to silver medal during the 11th SAG, Dhaka after controversial decisions by referees.



However, Shahi vowed to achieve another success at the 16th Asian Games, Guangzhou, China and was recently selected for the Asiad.



Meanwhile, other two participants of Nepal Ayasha Shakya and Yan Kumari Chaulagain claimed silver medals in the championship on Friday.



Shakya lost to a Thai player in the final of 52 kg weight category and Chaulagain faced the same plight against another Thai player in women´s 46 kg.







Shakya was a gold medalist at the 11th SAG and silver medalist at the 10th SAG. The 16th Asian Games contender Shakya had won bronze medal in the 15th edition of the games. Chaulagain, who claimed bronze in the 11th SAG, is also competing in Guangzhou.



Forty nations are competing in the e five-day-long Korea Open that kicked off on Thursday.
