“We have been clearly saying that cooperation with the Maoists is not possible unless the party severs its ties with its arms and armies,” he said.
Arguing that that national consensus government is a must to deliver peace and new constitution, Sitaula asked the Maoists to show honesty in implementing past agreements relating to peace process to pave way for forming such government. He claimed that Jhalanath Khanal-led government is like a ripe mango that will fall down from the tree soon.
“There is no point in extending the term of Constituent Assembly for another year unless there is a national consensus government in place. This would only prepare grounds for concluding peace process and constitution drafting process,” he further said.
Sitaula said that NC will hold talks with all political parties in the parliament to get their opinions about extending the term of the CA.
“Nepali Congress will make public its position on peace process and constitution drafting process through a mass rally to be held in Khulla Manch on May 20, keeping in view the latest political situation and the opinions of various political parties,” he further said.
Sitaula also said the proposal floated by Maoists on the integration of its combatants is not acceptable to NC.
“The proposal is against Comprehensive Peace Agreement, Interim Constitution and all other agreements reached in the past,” he said.
