JUMLA, Nov 15: The District Police Office on Monday night arrested seven Tibetans attempting to enter India through Nepal without any legal documents.

The Tibetans dressed as locals, were arrested from Dadafaya Village, according to the District Police Chief Hem Bahadur Lama.

Those arrested are Dorje Lama, 20, Tashi Dawa Lama, 35, Lima Tsering Lama, 43, Chyachu Lama, 40, Tamba Lama, 20, Hisijaya Lama, 26, and Deshi Lama, 20, of Bharwang District of China.

According to the Chief District Officer Bed Prasad Kharel, those arrested have been sent to the Department of Immigration for further action. “They said that they wanted to meet Dalai Lama,” he added.

Last week, Humla Police arrested five Tibetans from Simikot Airport while they were looking to fly to Nepalgunj.

Although Humla borders with China, there is no checkpost and customs office at the border. The open border is increasingly being used to smuggle goods.
