Seven sweet shops raided

KATHMANDU: The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control (DoFTQC) raided seven sweets shops in the capital during Tihar and destroyed 15 kg of substandard sweets and five liters of contaminated milk.



Spokesperson of DoFTQC Pramod Koirala said market inspectors destroyed 6 kg of Peda (caramel fudge) from New Dudha Sagar Mithai Pasal and 5 kg of Peda from that of New Kolkotta Sweets Kamalpokhari.[break]



 Kitchens of both the eateries were also found in unhygienic conditions, according to Koirala. Similarly, market inspectors also seized 3.5 kg of peanut butter fudge (khuwa) from Bhotahiti-based Chautari Sweets.



 Likewise, market inspectors has also destroyed 1 kg of Peda and five liters of milk from Narayangopal Chowk based Upadhyaya. They also warned the owner of the shop to maintain good hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen.
