KATHMANDU, April 23: Seven houses in Birgunj Metropolis-17 were gutted in fire this morning.
The fire that started from a thatched-roof house of local Mahendra Sahani engulfed six other houses in the vicinity. Property worth Rs 5.4 million was destroyed in the fire, according to Rajiv Bahadur Chhetri, chairman of ward-17.
"As it was a huge blaze, we could not douse it on time. Not only houses, but also cowsheds were burnt to ashes," he said.
Nothing inside the houses could be saved, according to him.
Kumar Bikram Thapa, a DSP at the District Police Office, Parsa, said that it took two hours for two fire engines to extinguish the blaze.
Ward Chairman Chhetri said the local government would take initiatives to provide relief to the fire victims.
