KATHMANDU, Dec 29: The Madhesi People's Rights Forum (Democratic) has said it will oppose the election if it is held by putting constitution amendment bill on hold.

Issuing a statement on Thursday, the Bijaya Gachchhadar-led party maintained that the date of local level election should be declared only after deciding the fate of the amendment bill. The party has suggested eight different proposals to resolve the current political impasse.

MPRF-D has maintained that the amendment bill in parliament is incomplete and needs revision to settle the demarcation disputes involving various districts including Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari in the east and Kailali and Kanchanpur in the west. The party has argued that Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari districts should be put in Province 2 and Kailali and Kanchanpur districts in Province 5.

The party has also suggested creating a new province by including Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Siraha, Saptari and Udayapur if the parties failed to reach agreement to put Jhapa, Morang and Sunsari in Province 2.

MPRF-D has also maintained that there cannot be any election until the constitution is amended and suggested to all parties to move forward in consensus to implement the constitution by holding the elections stipulated in the new constitution.

Among other things, the party has also asked the government to withdraw the trumped up charges against those arrested in connection with the Tikapur incident, and provide compensation to those whose houses were demolished or destroyed by the agitating groups.
