KATHMANDU, Feb 28: Five people died in road accidents in different parts of the country on Tuesday. The Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office said that 16 people were injured in these accidents.

Three people died and 12 were injured in a road accident at two places in Saptari.

Rajkumari Chaudhary, 45, and Hareram Sah Haluwai, 40, of Duhabi Municipality-3 of Sunsari were killed when a pick-up van (Pradesh 2-02-001 Cha 0746) carrying two horses  and a car (Ba 18 Cha 6617) collided near Kanchanrup-9 Bishnu Mandir on Tuesday morning. Twelve people injured in the accident are being treated in Biratnagar.

One person died after being hit by a car with an Indian number plate in Hanuman Nagar Kangalini Municipality-3 Portaha of Saptari.

Likewise, Gautam Tamang, 20, of Helambu Rural Municipality-7 of Sindhupalchok died after being hit by a tipper truck in Lamidanda, Panchkhal Municipality 4 of Kavre on Tuesday.

Tamang died at Dhulikhel Hospital on Tuesday at 10:30 AM. In the same incident, 19-year-old Sangi Tamang, who was riding pillion and who was injured in the same incident, is being treated at Dhulikhel Hospital.

The tipper truck (Ba 5 Kha 3494) going toward Panchkhaal from Zero Kilo hit the motorcycle (Ba 85 Pa 9017) coming from the opposite direction at around 9AM on Tuesday morning. Police have impounded the vehicles involved in the accident and the tipper driver has been taken into custody by the District Police Office, Kavre.

On the other hand, a child died when a tractor overturned at Vinayi Triveni Rural Municipality-4, Kavreli Chowk, in Bardghat Susta East of Nawalparasi. The deceased is 12-year-old Bavin Chhetri from the same place who was traveling on the tractor.

The District Police Office Nawalparasi Bardghat Susta East said that the child died during treatment at the district hospital on Tuesday morning at 4:30AM. A local 27-year-old Duggi Kunwar Chhetri, who was injured in the accident, is being treated at the same hospital. The tractor driver, who sustained minor injuries, is under police custody after treatment. The tractor (Lu 4 Ta 3046) went out of control at 1:30 AM and rammed into Ganesh Prasad Basyal's house on the roadside.

Similarly, two people were injured when a motorcycle collided with a truck at Baglung Municipality-2, Pension Camp Chowk in Baglung. The motorcyclist Shailendra Khadka, 23, of Guthi, Baglung Municipality-3, and Milan Pun Magar, 26, a local rider, were injured.

Both have been sent to Manipal Teaching Hospital in Pokhara from Dhaulagiri Hospital for further treatment. The motorcycle (Dha 1 Pa 9739) collided with the truck (Na 8 Kha 3686) which was parked on the roadside. Preliminary investigation by the police has revealed that both the riders on the motorcycle were under the influence of alcohol.
