Selections of five games complete<br/>Departmental teams top athletics selection chart

KATHMANDU, Nov 17: Three departmental teams -- Nepal Army Club, Nepal Police Club and Armed Police Force -- topped the athletics´ selection chart for the upcoming 11th South Asian Games. [break]



Twenty-two players, 15 men and 7 women, are selected for the Dhaka SAG. NAC and APF topped the selection chart with six players from each club. Likewise 5 NPC players have booked their tickets to Dhaka, while one from the Maoist militants camp and four others from various districts have been picked for the tournament.



The selected players are:



Keshari Chaudhary (NPC) -  High Jump

Pramila Rijal (APF) - 200 meters

Sabitri Nepali (NPC) - 400 meters

Ramita Chaudhary (Banke) - 100 meters, Long jump

Aarati Pathak (APF) - 100 meters hurdles

Sunita Tamang (APF) - Relay

Sita Hajam (PLA) - High Jump

Arjun Kumar Basnet (NAC) - Marathon

Rajendra Bhandari (NAC) - Marathon

Tilak Ram Tharu (Nawlaparasi) - 100 meters, 200 meters

Siddhanta Adhikari (Kaski) - 400 meters

Hari Rimal (NAC) - 1500 meters

Kalyan Baniya (NAC) - 5000 meters

Bidyadhar Chaudhary (NPC) - Long Jump

Bal Krishna Chaudhary (APF) - High Jump

Surya Khatri (NAC) - High Jump

Dhruba Narayan Uraw (NPC) - Triple Jump

Dhirendra Chaudhary (NPC) - 110 meters hurdles

Santosh Shrestha (APF) - 400 meters hurdles

Bali Ram Chaudhary (Chitwan) - 200 meters, Relay

Dashi Ram Chaudhary (NAC) - 100 meters, Relay

Suman Bhattarai (APF) - 400 meters, Relay







Kushal to defend SAG title in karate



Kushal Shrestha, one of the gold medalists of karate in the 10th South Asian Games, qualified for the upcoming 11th edition of the games on Tuesday.



Kushal won the selection event being held in Hetauda in 67 kg kumute (fight) to book the ticket to Dhaka SAG scheduled to be held from January 29 to February 9. He eased past Nepal Army´s Bhesh Bahadur Thapa.



Likewise, Armed Police Force´s Sunil Lama qualified in men´s 55 kg defeating Nepal Police Club´s Rabindra Dahal in the final selection match. NPC´s Binod Maharjan qualified in the men´s 60 kg defeating the 10th SAG´s Silver medalist Ram Limbu, while Binod Shakya from eastern region qualified in the men´s 75 kg kumute.



In women´s kumute, Anu Adhikari from central region eased past APF´s Roji Nagarkoti in 55 Kg and qualified for the SAG. APF´s Ganga Adhikari qualified in 61kg category as Tara Gurung remained behind because of superiority. Six players along with two women will participate in the kumute.



Nine players for karate kata have already been selected on Monday.



Shooting



Twelve shooting players have qualified for the upcoming SAG. Nepal Shooting Association picked them after a selection test held in Satdobato Shooting Range on Monday and Tuesday.



In men´s air rifle category, Nepal Army´s Krishna Ghorasaini scored 565 points and stood first, while Tikaram Shrestha and Chanas Rai scored 564 and 560 points respectively and stood second and third.



In women´s air rifle category, Nepal Police Club´s Phool Maya Kyapchhaki scored 373 points whereas Asmita Rai and Manika Rai both scored 373 points to qualify for the Dhaka SAG.







Likewise, in men´s air pistol category, Baruddin Ansari from mid-western region scored 561 points to top the qualification chart, whereas army man Sudan Khadka and police personnel Anil Shah scored 548 and 544 to qualify for the Dhaka SAG.



In women´s air pistol, Krishna Thapa from Midwestern scored 369 points, while Nepal Police Club´s Sabita Basnet and Sima Tuladhar scored 361 and 351 points respectively to book the Dhaka tickets.



Boxing



Nepal Boxing Association selected 12 boxers along with six reserves to participate in the 11th South Asian Games´ closed camp.



Among the 12 players, five are from the Armed Police Force. Likewise, three from Nepal Army, two from central region and one each from Nepal Police and far western region have also been selected for the camp.



The qualified players are Sachin Raut (48kg), Ajit Gurung (60kg), Sushil Ghimire (64kg), Laxman Saud (51kg), Debendra Raj Singh Thakuri (54kg) and Dinesh Shrestha (57kg).



The reserve players are Laxuman Tamang (54kg), Purna Bahadur Lama (57kg), Sudan Gurung (64kg), Anil Gurung (69kg), Rajan Shilpakar (75kg) and Dipak Maharjan (51 kg).



The association also appointed Prachanda Sharma as the chief coach of the camp, whereas Om Maske, Dambar Datta Bhatta and Raj Shrestha will assist Sharma. Rajeeb Shrestha is the manager for the boxing team.



Kabaddi



Nepal Kabaddi Association selected 16 players each in men and women´s category to participate in the upcoming South Asian Games. According to National Sports Council, there are two reserve players in each category.



The players who qualified in men´s category are Dambar Baduwal, Mahesh Bohara, Jaya Bohara, Bhuwan Khadka, Man Bahadur Ranabhat, Hem Bahadur Basnet, Sanjay Shrestha, Kewal Rawat, Amardeep Shrestha, Munna Patel, Dharme Sunar, Naresh Chaudhariy Shyamkrishna Basukala, Debesh Jha. The two reserves are Chet Narayan Chaudhary and Yuvaraj Shrestha.



Likewise, the selected women players are Sangita Gautam, Saraswati Thapa, Netra Thapa, Shanti Malla, Nirmala Bista, Nitu Gurung, Kosh Maya Basnet, Meenu Gurung, Kalpana Shrestha, Shushila Magar, Rajani Gurung, Sanjana Tamang, Ambika Mandal and Ramita Thapa Magar. The two reserves are Keli Gurung and Rukmini Chand.
