KATHMANDU, Dec 25: In an apparent bid to learn about the Maoist ex-combatant´s views on integration and rehabilitation, members of special committee secretariat have reached Chitwan-based Shaktikhor cantonment on Saturday.

The 12-member secretariat got full shape early this week after UCPN (Maoist) named Tej Bahadur Oli, who is the commander of PLA Division No 4, as the PLA representative in the committee.[break]

According to secretariat coordinator Balananda Sharma, the members yet hold group interactions to learn about the combatants´ views on integration modality and rehabilitation package.

“We have just arrived,” Sharma said.

Maoists have been expressing dissatisfaction over the rehabilitation package announced by the government saying the package is inadequate.

As per the proposed package, each combatant, who wants to be rehabilitated, would be given Rs 375,000. But the Maoists have demanded that the government provide a minimum of Rs 1.5 million to each of the combatants.

Sharma further said the secretariat would succeed in executing the army integration and rehabilitation plan even after UNMIN exits the country on January 15 given there is a political consensus among the parties.
