However, the price of mushroom is reported to have increased in Nepali market due to the lack of proper supply.
According to Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables Market Development Board (KFVMDB), a government authority that oversees management of vegetable market, the price of some of the seasonal vegetables has decreased due to more than sufficient supply in the market.
“High production of the seasonal vegetables is the major reason behind the fall in price,” said Geeta Parsad, a wholesaler of Kalimati Fruits and Vegetables market.
In normal market condition, provided that the supply situation is smooth, around 500 metric tons of vegetable enters into the valley daily from neighboring districts, which is enough for the valley. However, when there is lack of supply, price of some vegetables fluctuate unnaturally.
The wholesale price of big tomato has dropped to Rs 31 from Rs 47 per kg and small tomato has dropped to Rs 31 from Rs 61 per kg.
Similarly, price of the white potato has decline to Rs 17 from Rs 23 per kg, and price of dry onion has dropped to Rs 26 from Rs 30 per kg.
Likewise, price of cauliflower has reached Rs 23 from Rs 33 per kg and pointed gourd reached Rs 36 from Rs 55 per kg. Traders said that price has fallen down due to the increment in the volume of supply with the start of the vegetable growing season.
“Even the price of vegetables that are high in demand in the market has fallen slightly because of proper supply in this season,” said Parsad.
However, leafy vegetables such as spinach leaf, cress leaf, mustard leaf and fenugreek leaf became dearer in the market over the period of one week because the main season for their production has just begun.
