The next meeting will be held after Holi festival that falls on February 28. The meeting is expected to take crucial decision to settle the differences surfaced in eight district committees -- Sankhuwasabha, Okhaldhunga, Kailali, Pyuthan, Bara, Kavre, Saptari and Nuwakot. [break]
NC headquarters became tense after a group of disgruntled cadres attempted to manhandle Shrestha, who is a coordinator of a sub-committee formed earlier to resolve the differences in over three dozen district committees, and barred him from entering into the meeting hall.
The cadres alleged that the Shrestha-led committee had taken decision to oust the district committee presidents in the two districts against the spirit of unification between NC and then NC (D). They said the cadres belonging to then NC (D) were put into injustice.
According to NC General Secretary Bimalendra Nidhi, the meeting decided to halt the process of distributing active membership in the said districts until the differences are settled amicably by the CWC.
The protests at Sanepa were also marked with minor scuffles. Two cadres -- Tek Bahadur Katawal (Okhaldhunga) and Ram Kumar Thapa (Sankhuwasabha) -- were slightly injured. At least four chairs vandalized.
A large number of police personnel were deployed at the party office. The security personnel remained there till the meeting abruptly ended at 7 p.m.
The agitating cadres obstructed party leaders to enter into the meeting hall for the second consecutive day on Wednesday. The agitating cadres had vented anger against the party´s acting president Sushil Koirala and other top office bearers, waving placards and shouting strong slogans against them, demanding that the party´s CWC correct its decisions.
Taking part on the CWC discussion, NC senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba stressed the need to settle the rows as per the agreement reached between party president Girija Prasad Koirala and himself at the time of party unification some two years ago.
