KATHMANDU, Feb 22: A female scooter rider died after being hit by a bus while trying to “escape” a traffic police check at Jawalakhel in the Lalitpur district on Monday afternoon.

A public bus with registration number Ba 2 Kha 3574 hit the scooter (Province 3- 02 -010 Pa 5589), which was “escaping” a traffic check at the Jawalakhel Chowk, according to Metropolitan Police Traffic Division.


“The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. The scooter rider died while undergoing treatment at the Lalitpur-based Alka Hospital,” said Shyam Krishna Adhikari, spokesperson for the Division, adding that the incident occurred at around 1 in the afternoon. 


According to Adhikari, the scooter rider escaped though there was a security check. “Despite stopping for security checking, the rider escaped from the scene, and a bus hit the scooter from behind,” he said.


In the meantime, Lalitpur Police said that they are working to ascertain the identity of the deceased.
