Girl students do not avoid classes during periods after we started distributing sanitary pads, informed Principal Saroj Karki. He said this was made possible through contribution from teachers in the school. [break]
“The teachers have been contributing Re 1 per day from their salaries and we have been using the money to buy girl students sanitary pads,” said he.
In a bid to establish the school as a sample school in the district, the teachers had set up a fund four years ago to provide scholarship to needy students. Now the fund is also utilized to buy sanitary pads for girl students.
Pratigya Ghale, a seventh grader at the school, said, “Earlier, we used to flee the school during our menstrual cycle. But now we don´t have to flee as we get sanitary pads from school.”
This initiative has increased attendance of girl students, claimed Principal Karki.
Of total 950 students enrolled in the school, around 450 are girls.
