LAHAN, May 11:  A 14-year-old boy of Kushaha-5, Siraha has been kidnapped on Monday morning from Lahan bazaar where he had gone to buy vegetables.

Ram Udgar Yadav, father of the abducted boy Gumasta, revealed that an unidentified person had called him in the afternoon and threatened to kidnap his son. But Ram Udgar ignored the threat and his son was kidnapped at six in the evening while going to buy vegetables.[break]

Gumasta and his two younger brothers were living together in a rented room in Lahan. When Gumasta did not return home the two brothers slept thinking that he might have gone to meet friends.

Ram Udgar learnt about the kidnapping only after the kidnappers called him at eight on Tuesday morning demanding ransom of Rs 1 million. “We have abducted your son at six on Monday evening and he is currently bleeding from mouth and nose. Arrange one million rupees by four on Wednesday afternoon,” the father quoted the caller [kidnapper] as saying.

“I was working at my field at that time and fainted upon hearing that. I requested him to not harm my son and promised to come with whatever amount I can muster,” he added.

The caller had also warned not to tell the police about abduction. Ram Udgar reached Lahan in the afternoon and called the kidnapper to ask about the place to pay ransom. “He said he would call at four on Wednesday afternoon to tell me about the place and cut the phone. The phone remains switched off now,” he stated.

The illiterate farmer revealed he had sent his sons to Lahan for education to ensure that they don´t have to suffer his fate. “I had thought that the standard of education and security is better in town and had managed the expenses with much difficulty,” he regretted and appealed for the safe release of his son.

Founder of Little Star Boarding School Jaya Prakash Chaudhari said the kidnapped boy was not regular in classes and was absent on Sunday and Monday as well.

This is the sixth instance of kidnapping of school student in Lahan in the last one year and all previous children were released after parents paid ransom amounts. The locals are angry with the police for the latter´s failure to secure release in any of the cases.

Police inspector Bipin Regmi in Lahan claimed that police have been working hard to seek the release of Gumasta.
