The 22-year-old Nihita and her mother were summoned and questioned by the apex court on charges of using "abusive" language against the justices who delivered the verdict upholding life imprisonment for Sobhraj on the charge of murdering an American backpacker in Nepal in 1975. [break]
A division bench of justices Balaram KC and Ram Kumar Prasad Shah set September 27 for a final verdict. Earlier, the same bench had set the date of September 20 for the case.
Both Nihita and Shakuntala had accused the judges who delivered the July 30 verdict against 66-year-old Sobhraj of accepting bribes.
Advocates Rajan Adhikari and Shanta Sedhai had filed the case, arguing that the comments to media by Shakuntala and Nihita on the SC verdict in the Sobhraj case amounted to contempt of court.
