KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Supreme Court (SC) is all set to start hearings through the automation system from August 28.

The newly-appointed Chief Justice Bishowambhar Prasad Shrestha has said that he is going to start the system from Monday in an attempt to curb irregularities in the court.

During a group meeting with journalists affiliated to the Constitutional and Judicial Journalist Forum, who paid a visit to the CJ on Sunday to congratulate him, CJ Shrestha made it clear that he will emphasize on the use of Information technology (IT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to prevent irregularities in the court.

Chief Justice Shrestha said that he had to start the automation system in order to reduce interference of the legal practitioners in the work of setting dates for the hearing proceedings. He insisted that he wanted to address public complaints against the court through the medium of technology.

After the Supreme Court, Chief Justice Shrestha plans to immediately implement the system in Kathmandu District Court. He said that there is no need to worry about irregularities in the judicial service as they will be investigated by the Judicial Council.

Chief Justice Shrestha mentioned that he has already started the process of appointing justices and also expressed his belief that there will be positive outcomes.

He informed that the process of appointing new justices has already commenced. He highlighted the need for these appointments, as the court currently faces a significant caseload and is struggling due to the absence of sufficient justices in alignment with approved positions.
