SC show cause to EC

KATHMANDU, Oct 4: The Supreme Court on Monday issued show cause notice in the name of Election Commission (EC) for launching new voter registration program being conducted making citizenship certificate mandatory for registration.



Responding to a writ petition filed Sunday, the court asked the defendants to furnish written clarification within 15 days. The court however denied issuing stay order as sought by writ petitioner Sunil Ranjan Shah.



The bench has also summoned both the EC officials and the petitioner to further discuss the case after three weeks.
