KATHMANDU, March 9: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday acquitted six UCPN (Maoist) leaders, including party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal of the charge of contempt of court.

Murari Kumar Sharma had filed a case at the SC against Dahal and Maoist leaders Baburam Bhattarai, Narayankaji Shrestha, EK Raj Bhandari, Salikram Jamakattel and Chandra Bahadur Thapa accusing them of giving controversial remarks against SC justices and the apex court. [break]

Maoist leaders had vented ire against SC Justice Kalyan Shrestha and the SC after the apex court scrapped the decision of then Maoist-led government to pension off eight army officials.

The division bench of SC Justices Girischandra Lal and Prakash Wasti scrapped the case citing lack of solid evidence to support the applicant´s claim.
