KATHMANDU, Dec 20: The Supreme Court has ordered a supplementary report on Bechan Jha’s writ petition. A single bench led by Justice Kumar Regmi issued the order for the supplementary report.
Bechan Jha, who is currently in custody in connection with the fake Bhutanese refugees case, had filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on Thursday, seeking the reversal of the decision to keep him in custody for further investigation. He is in custody on charges of fraud for allegedly creating fake Bhutanese refugees and trafficking Nepali citizens to the United States.
Court remands Bechan Jha to judicial custody for investigation
The High Court, upholding the district court's order, had sent Bechan Jha to custody on December 16. Along with Jha, the High Court also ordered the detention of Pratik Thapa for further investigation. Pratik is the son of former Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa.
In the same case, former ministers Bal Krishna Khand and Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, along with suspended secretary Tek Narayan Pandey, are also defendants.
