SC moved for delineation of constituencies before poll date

KATHMANDU, April 2: A writ petition was filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday seeking the court´s intervention in the government´s move to announce date for Constituent Assembly (CA) elections without delineating election constituencies.



Rajlal Mandal of Saptari moved the apex court on the behalf of former minister Jaya Prakash (JP) Gupta. The writ petitioner has demanded formation of Constituency Delimitation Commission as per the Article 154 of the interim constitution. [break]



He has claimed that the announcement of election date without delineating election constituencies will violate the interim constitution. The writ petitioner has also claimed that such a move would be against constitutional supremacy, democratic system and universal principle of political rights.



The president´s office, office of the interim election council, Nepali Congress (NC) President Sushil Koirala, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, Madhesi People´s Rights Forum-Democratic Chairman Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar and Election Commission have been made defendants in the writ petition.
