KATHMANDU, Dec 26: The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday issued a mandamus, instructing the government to take various important measures on matters related to climate change.
The mandamus was issued by a division bench of Chief Justice Om Prakash Mishra and Justice Tej Bahadur KC after hearings on a writ petition filed by advocate Padma Shrestha.

The petition filed on October 31 last year demanded a separate law for issues related to climate change and effective implementation of the Climate Change Policy 2011. The petitioner had also demanded mitigation of the severe implications of climate change on the livelihoods of the people living across the country.
“The adverse impacts of climate change are being felt throughout the country. Hence, the government cannot target the climate change policy on just 12 districts of the country, ignoring the rest,” said advocate Shrestha.
