SC begins hearing on writ petitions against HoR dissolution

KATHMANDU, May 27: Hearing on the writ petitions registered against the dissolution of the House of Representatives (HoR) has begun at the Supreme Court (SC). 

A single bench led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR is hearing 19 writ petitions demanding an interim order to restore the lower house of parliament. 

A total of 30 petitions have been filed against the House dissolution. Eleven of them will be heard at the Constitutional Bench, a five-member full bench led by the chief justice, starting from Friday. 

It is to be noted that President Biday Devi Bhandari, at the recommendation of the Council of Ministers, dissolved the HoR as per Article 76 (7) of the Constitution of Nepal on May 22.
