KATHMANDU, May 17: The Supreme Court (SC) has requested relevant government bodies to provide evidence of Rabi Lamichhane, the President of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), renouncing his US passport.

The Case and Writ Division of the Supreme Court sent letters to the District Administration Office (DAO) in Babarmahal Kathmandu and the Department of Immigration in Kalikasthan Kathmandu, asking for proof of Lamichhane's renouncement of his American passport.

The letters were sent on May 10. Yuvraj Paudel from Sindhuli filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the decision of the Attorney General's Office and Lamichhane. Paudel argued that Lamichhane had obtained a Nepali passport despite having a US passport and had not addressed the issue of the US passport.

In the same writ petition, on April 5, the apex court had ordered the submission of Lamichhane's renounced US citizenship certificate.
