Say goodbye to clutter

A lot of times we only think about keeping and managing our belongings by using the floor space that makes the room feel smaller than it actually is and also way more congested.

Busy is how as millennials we generally define our days. And indeed there is just so much to be done. While rushing to complete everything on our agenda, we hardly ever have the time to organize or tidy up our rooms. Besides making our rooms look messy, this can also slow us down while getting ready and, worse, make it difficult to find that notebook or jacket when we need it the most. Here are some easy and practical ways to organize your room.

Use wall space properly
A lot of times we only think about keeping and managing our belongings by using the floor space that makes the room feel smaller than it actually is and also way more congested. If this is what’s happening in your room too, use whatever wall space you can to organize your things. You can hang an open cupboard of sorts to place your books or buy a bunch of hooks, place them around your room and hang up things like your sports racket case, hand towels, pencil holder (that has a built in hanger—you could also DIY one if your holder doesn’t have a hanger), etc. Just make sure to place them strategically - don’t put anything heavy above your bed and make sure the piece of furniture you are hanging up can bear the weight of the things you are placing on it.

Add a garment hanger or rack
You could seriously clear out some space in your closet or cupboard by hanging your clothes on a garment rack. If all your clothes don’t fit in the rack, then just hang up the bulky ones that generally take a lot of space when they are folded. You could use this as a way to keep your prettiest clothing on display as well. Otherwise, pick out the items that you generally gravitate towards or know looks good on you and hang them there so that you don’t have to search your whole wardrobe to find a decent outfit. This will save you a lot of time while getting ready—especially when you are getting late. Placing your clothes in a color-coordinated manner will make the hanger look neater. These days, you can also find garment hangers that can be hung up on walls. Consider buying that or if you have way too many clothes, you could use both a hanger stand and a wall hanger.

Separate your items
Although dumping everything in a large basket seems like an easy way to avoid having your things scattered all over your room, that isn’t really a good idea in the long run. Doing that tangles wiry and string like things with other stuff and you could damage or even lose delicate or small items in the midst of everything else in that basket. Instead, separate everything into categories and place them in different baskets and drawers. The trick here is to buy organizers that will create smaller sections within a large holder and keep your things apart. An alternative that is just as effective is to buy a lot of smaller holders and later place them all (tidily) in a single bigger holder.

Buy multipurpose furniture
If your room is getting more jam packed and unorganized by the day, this might be a sign that you need to replace your old furniture with new ones that can serve multiple purposes at once. Things like having a wardrobe that has a full length mirror installed on its door can seriously save a lot of space in your room. Incase you don’t have the budget to get new furniture or just don’t want to, you could also DIY it. Install a firm rod under the cupboard you have hung on your wall and use that to put up your clothes. Stick on hooks at the side of tall pieces of furniture in your room and you could use that to hang things like your bags and belts. You could make your ottoman double as a coffee table by putting a sturdy tray on top of it when it’s not in use.

Display your accessories
We usually tend to keep our jewelry in pretty little boxes or pouches, which sometimes tend to make our dresser tops messy and cluttered. Displaying jewelry out in the open could add to the overall aesthetics of your room and make it more orderly at the same time—if it’s done right that is. Get or make a lattice out of wire and paint it in a color that either blends into or compliments your walls and your entire room at large. Start hanging your accessories on it. You can hang anything from caps, berets and belts to earrings and necklaces on it. You can choose to make it look neat by color-coding it or have it as a quirky and messy display.
