Saurya Airlines Chairman Pokharel claims Rs 5 million found at TIA is his money

KATHMANDU, Jan 6: The 5 million rupees that was recovered by the police at Tribhuwan International Airport on Saturday is said to belong to Deepak Pokharel, chairperson of Saurya Airlines. The bag containing the money had reached Kathmandu on Saturday in Saurya Airlines, Flight no SAU724 from Biratnagar at 1:55AM.

Resha Shakya Pokharel, an assistant at Saurya Airlines Kathmandu, along with three other employee of the airline was sent to the Department of Revenue Investigation, Lalitpur for a necessary investigation into the case.

After this, Deepak Pokharel requested for the release of the employee stating that the five million rupees was his. Pokharel made the request to the DRI in a written letter. The department, on the other hand, replied that the employees could be released only if an equal amount was kept as bail.

The arrested were released on Monday after the required bail was deposited. Similarly, Pokharel has been summoned to the department on Thursday for a statement. Pokharel's business will now be investigated along with the Rs 5 million whose source is still not known. Pokharel was also involved in betel nut business before joining Saurya Airlines.

Similarly, the five million rupees was found to be sent from the office of Dinesh Rathi, a businessman from Biratnagar. When the department had interrogated Rathi over the telephone, he said that as Pokharel would send cargo time and again, they didn’t check what was in the box.

Likewise, Rathi has already come to Kathmandu for further investigation.
