KATHMANDU, Aug 13: Chairperson of Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) Sarita Giri on Tuesday launched a hunger strike in the capital demanding review of the number of election constituencies for the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

Spokesperson for the party Govinda Sah said that Giri would continue her hunger strike at Shanti Batika in the capital until their demands are met.

Sadbhawana Party (Anandi Devi) has said that there must be at least 121 election constituencies in Madhes in accordance with the latest census instead of 116 recommended by the Constituency Delineation Commission (CDC). [break]

According to Sah, the party has also demanded that the Election Commission (EC) provide a window period for voters to register on the electoral roll. “The commission should stop registering voters 15 to 20 days before the poll date,” he added.

Leaders of the party had submitted a memorandum to the government on Sunday.
