KATHMANDU, August 10: US Department of State has recognized Sarswati Nepali as a 2023 Global Anti-Racism Champion (GARC). An announcement to this effect was made on Wednesday .

As an acclaimed social activist and President of the Dalit Society Development Forum, Sarswati has spent over 20 years advocating for the human rights of marginalized castes, the disabled, and the poor in Nepal. 

Her efforts have resulted in legal land titles and justice for countless Dalit families in Nepal’s rural western districts, and she has championed numerous caste-based discrimination prosecutions in pursuit of justice, including the first ever successful prosecution of caste-based discrimination in Nepal’s history in 2007.

According to the US Embassy in Kathmandu, her work is a model of courage and dedication in the pursuit of dignity and equality.
