DHANGADHI, Jan 14: Sankata Club has fixed the title clash of the Sudur Paschim Khaptad Gold Cup football tournament with Manang Marshyangdi Club after breaking the heart of host Sudhur Paschim XI with a 1-0 win on Friday in the second semifinal played at the Dhangadhi stadium in Dhangadhi.
Sankata scored the lone goal against the run of the play in the 16th minute through a freekick. Amit Tamang's curling freekick from the edge of the box entered the back of the net to book summit clash scheduled for Saturday.
Home team backed by huge number of local supporters resorted to offensive style of play since the onset and took the match under control. However, a number of stunning saves from Sankata goalie Raju Yogi frustrated the home team and supporters.
Goalie Raju, who was later declared the man-of-the-match, denied some powerful attempts on goal by Gajendra Shahi, Sumit Dubey and Mani Ram Chaudhary.
Sankata coach Salyan Khadgi said that his team was able to win after they stuck to their plans. Rabi Silwal, the captain of the A Division outfit, lauded the opponent team and echoed that his side was able to win after it was able to capitalize on the only scoring opportunity.
Sudur Paschim skipper Gajendra lamented that his side was unable to win despite playing better than the visiting team.
The winner and the runner up teams of the tournament will be given Rs 500,000 and Rs 251,000 respectively along with trophies. The best player of the tournament will be rewarded with a Yamaha motorbike.
