KATHMANDU, Dec 29: Former Attorney General Yubaraj Sangroula’s book “South Asia China Geo-economics" was released on Friday.

Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal unveiled the book authored by Sangroula amid a function in the capital. Addressing the event, Khanal said that Nepal should be aware of opportunities in the unfolding regional and global geopolitical scenarios at a time when immediate neighboring countries China and India have emerged as the fastest-growing economies in recent years.

"Being sandwiched between the world's emerging economies, we have to seize the rise of China and India as an opportunity and utilize it for the sake of our national interests," Khanal said. He argued that the Asia region is all set to lead the world in the 21st century as the United States is seen as a declining power.

On the occasion, senior journalists Yubaraj Ghimire, Dhrubahari Adhikari, Dev Prakash Tripathi and eminent personalities extended best wishes to the author.

In his book, the author has argued that China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) has been emerged as one of the biggest economic development models around the globe in the past few years.

Sangroula said that the BRI has followed the principle of open participation with a principle of cooperation on equal footing.

The BRI intends to reshape the existing globalization that is characterized by dispositions of colonial and confrontational underpinnings, Sangroula says in the book.

“Tangibly, the development model of BRI consists of Eurasian transport network integrating multi-dimensional interconnected network of railways, highways, aviation, navigation, oil and gas pipelines, electric transmission lines and communication. These networks intend to create a rich sphere of interconnectedness with shared benefits to all stakeholders,” the author states.

Sangroula argued that landlocked countries like Nepal, who joined the China-initiated Belt and Road Initiative, are going to become the greatest beneficiaries of the Belt and Road model.

The book revolves around several geo-political and geo-economic contemporary issues including ‘China containment strategy of the United States’, ‘Rise of China and India and the US security strategy’, ‘China vis-à-vis South Asia: Economic Development and Reforms of Governance’ and among others.
