Sahaj Shakya wins school triathlon

KATHMANDU, Aug 25: Sahaj Shakya of Shuvatara School claimed the boy´s title of First Inter-school Triathlon Championship held in the capital on Saturday. Shakya clocked 47 minutes 05 seconds to come ahead of 12 competitors. Shakya clocked 6 minutes 57 seconds to complete 400 m swimming, finished 10 km cycling in 27 minutes 30 seconds and took 12 minutes 13 seconds to run 2.5 km distance.



Sirish Gurung of Kendriya Vidyalaya and Uzir Raj Thapa of Woodstock School secured second and third positions. Gurung came 31 seconds behind winner Shakya to complete the overall event in 47 minutes 36 seconds. Gurung took 5 minutes 34 seconds in swimming, 29 minute 17 second in cycling and 12 minute 45 second in running. Second runner up Thapa finished the overall event in 49 minutes 39 seconds.[break]



Gurung finished swimming in 7 minutes 57 seconds, cycling in 29 minutes 19 seconds and running in 12 minutes 23 seconds. The only participant in the girl´s section Sina Mathema finished first with the timing of 1 hour 10 minute 15 second. Mathema clocked 8 minutes 53 seconds in swimming 40 minutes 50 seconds in cycling 20 minutes 22 seconds in running. Altogether 13 boys competed in the event.
