In a commendable effort to preserve the pristine beauty of Nepal's mountains, the Nepalese Army has successfully conducted the Safa Himal Campaign 2023, resulting in the collection of over 35,000 kilograms of solid waste. This remarkable initiative highlights the importance of environmental conservation and the significant role played by the national army in safeguarding our natural treasures. The campaign's objective was to collect 35,000 kilograms of garbage from various mountains, and the Nepalese Army, according to the details shared by its Directorate of Public Relations and Information, has exceeded this target. As per the figures provided, a total of 35,708 kilograms of waste have been gathered, including 3,567 kilograms from Mt Annapurna, 18,520 kilograms from Mt Baruntse, and 13,621 kilograms from Everest and Lhotse. These staggering numbers demonstrate the magnitude of the effort put forth by the Nepalese Army and the extent of waste accumulation in these mountainous regions.

It is worth acknowledging the dedication and perseverance displayed by the team of Nepalese Army stationed at the base camp of Mount Everest. These brave individuals, who risked their own safety, worked tirelessly to bring down the garbage that had marred the majestic peaks. Their selfless commitment to this cause is truly admirable and sets an example for all of us. However, amidst this achievement, we must also recognize the sacrifices made during this arduous mission. Tragically, two Sherpa guides lost their lives while assisting the Nepalese Army team in running the cleanliness campaign. Their sacrifice reminds us of the risks involved in such endeavors and the need to ensure the safety of all individuals involved in future initiatives. Additionally, four Nepalese Army personnel who fell ill during the campaign have been taken to India for further treatment. We extend our prayers and best wishes for their speedy recovery.
