KATHMANDU, Nov 24: Lawmakers of the ruling CPN-UML have strongly criticized Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal for failing to take action against the Minister of State for Agriculture and Cooperative Karima Begum.

Minister Begum had slapped Parsa Chief District Officer Durga Prasad Bhandari for allegedly sending a malfunctioning vehicle to receive her at the Parsa airport earlier this month.

Addressing a parliamentary party meeting of CPN-UML on Tuesday morning, lawmaker Rabindra Adhikari termed the incident as a mockery of democracy. Other members present in the meeting echoed his view.

“The minister´s act of slapping the CDO is shameful. Moreover, the PM´s failure to sack her is very sad. It has not only promoted impunity but also indicated a darker future of democracy,” Adhikari said in the meeting attended by Home Minister Bhim Rawal and other ministers. The prime minister was not present at the meeting.
