Nepali rupee lost 52 paisa to close at 99.76 against US dollar on Friday. Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central monetary authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with exchange rate of US dollar fixed at Rs 99.24.
Though rupee’s value remained unchanged on Monday, it lost 5 paisa to settle at 99.29 against US dollar on Tuesday after the Indian currency weakened against the greenback. Rupee shed value on Wednesday as well, losing 7 paisa to settle at 99.36 against the dollar. Rupee lost another 55 paisa on Thursday to close the day’s trading at 99.91. It, however, gained 15 paisa on Friday to end the week at 99.76 against US dollar.
According to Press Trust of India (PTI), snapping its four-day falling streak, Indian rupee on Thursday recovered by 5 paisa to close at 62.20 against US dollar in early trade at the inter-bank foreign exchange market on back of selling of the American currency by exporters.
“According to forex dealers, a higher opening in the domestic equity market and weakening dollar against other overseas currencies, strengthened the rupee,” reports PTI.
Rupee gained a whopping Rs 1.28 against euro and 90 paisa against Pound Sterling this week. A euro was valued Rs 110.21 on Friday, while the Pound Sterling was exchanged at Rs 152.08.
BULLION
Gold price went down by Rs 100 per tola this week. Bullion trading opened on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 51,700 per tola.
On Monday, gold price increased by Rs 300 per tola to Rs 52,000. The price of yellow metal, however, went down on Tuesday by Rs 200 per tola to settle at Rs 51,800. Gold price fell by another by Rs 200 per tola on Wednesday to settle at Rs 51,600. The price remained unchanged on Thursday, due to public holiday, and Friday to close the week’s trading at Rs 51,600 per tola.
Meanwhile, price of silver decreased by Rs 5 per tola this week. Silver was traded at Rs 695 on Friday.
