Rupee weakens, gold loses shine

KATHMANDU, Nov 20: Nepali rupee lost 3 paisa against US dollar this week as the Indian currency, with which rupee is pegged, weakened against the greenback. Meanwhile, gold price came down by Rs 175 per 10 grams over the week.CURRENCY

Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central regulatory authority, opened currency trading on Sunday with value of US dollar fixed at Rs 106.15.

Rupee gained 9 paisa on Monday to close at 106.06 against US dollar. On Tuesday also, rupee strengthened by 22 paisa to settle at 105.84 against US dollar. The local currency, however, lost 13 paisa against the greenback on Wednesday to close at 105.97. On Thursday, rupee shed another 29 paisa to close trading at 106.26 against the greenback. Rupee logged gain of 8 paisa on Friday to close the week's trading at 106.18 against US dollar.

Meanwhile, rupee gained 70 paisa against euro but shed 46 paisa against Pound Sterling over the week. A euro was exchanged at Rs 113.44 on Friday, while the British Pound was valued Rs 161.97.

BULLION

Gold price came down by Rs 175 per 10 grams this week. Trading began on Sunday with price of gold fixed at Rs 41,755 per 10 grams.

The price increased by Rs 255 per 10 grams to Rs 42,010 on Monday. It, however, came down by Rs 430 per 10 grams on Tuesday to settle at Rs 41,580. On Wednesday also, gold price fell by Rs 425 per 10 grams to settle at Rs 41,155. Gold price, however, increased by Rs 255 per 10 grams on Thursday to Rs 41,410. Price of the yellow metal increased by Rs 170 per 10 grams on Friday to close the week's trading at Rs 41,580.

Similarly, price of silver came down by Rs 4 per 10 grams this week. On Friday, silver was traded at Rs 579 per 10 grams.
