BUTWAL, Aug 25: Rupandehi has reported yet another coronavirus-related death.

A 55-year-old man from Gaidahawa Rural Municipality-3 who earlier tested positive for coronavirus breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Bhim Hospital, Bhairahawa on Monday midnight, according to Dr Sumit Prajapati.

Dr Prajapati said that he was a critically injured patient and should have been treated at the ICU.

"Despite having ICU and ventilator facilities, we had to conduct his treatment at the isolation ward due to the lack of required human resources," he said.

Earlier, the Universal Medical College had referred him to Bhim Hospital on Monday midnight.

He was admitted to Universal Medical College after sustaining injuries as he fell off his house roof last Tuesday. However, in the course of treatment he tested positive for coronavirus on Friday and was referred to Bhim Hospital.

According to his family members, the hospital collected his swab sample and sent it for COVID-19 testing. However, Universal Medical College expressed unwillingness to conduct his treatment after he tested positive for the virus.

Family members have also blamed Bhim Hospital for his death. They claim that the delay in admitting the man to Bhim Hospital also led to the patient's death. "We had to wait at the hospital gate for at least two hours before the admission," the patient's brother said. However, Dr Prajapati said that they had started his treatment immediately after he was brought to the hospital.
