KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The announcement of the Nepali Congress of her joining the party came as a shock to popular actor Sarita Lamichhane.

She was dumbfounded to hear that cine artists including Ram Keshar Bogati, Rista Basnet, Puskar Lama and Sarita Lamichhane joined Nepali Congress amidst a program held at NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha yesterday.

“I am a conscious Nepali citizen who believes in politics. Politics plays a vital role in the development of a country. But, I have not taken membership of any political party so far. I have been amazed and, at the same time, disappointed, to hear the rumor of my joining the NC.

Sarita, who is also one of the judges for the NEFTA award to be held in Doha,Qatar, is of the opinion that the country is above politics. “I will join the politics when the time comes. Currently, to me, the country is far higher than the politics,” she added.

Sarita, who had made her debut in the Nepali TV serial ‘Mukti’ directed by Tulsi Ghimire, has performed in many Nepali films already.

Earlier, the NC had issued a statement stating that Sarita joined the party.
