CHITWAN, March 8: Senior CPN-UML leader Madhav Kumar Nepal said on Friday the ruling UCPN (Maoist) is trying to get hold of the army and the judiciary to fulfill its vested interests.

Speaking to reporters at Bharatpur airport, the former prime minister said the leaders who are engaged in the current negotiation for a chief justice-headed poll government should first realize this fact before making any decision. [break]

“We are making a major mistake by aligning ourselves to the agenda endorsed by their (Maoists’) general convention. We should stop letting our actions dictated by them,” Nepal said. He also said it would be better to assign the leadership of election government to Khil Raj Regmi as an independent person after convincing him to resign from his current post of chief justice.

In the context of the demand by the Moaists for the post of colonel for the PLA in the national army, the UML leader accused the Maoist party of showing dishonesty for consensus building. “They now want (the post of) colonel. What has the post got to do with new elections?” he questioned.
