KATHMANDU, July 3: The top leaders of the ruling coalition including Nepali Congress (NC) and the CPN (Maoist Center) have agreed to form a new government under the leadership of Nepali Congress (NC) in Koshi Province.

A meeting of the top leaders of the ruling parties held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence in Baluwatar on Monday made a decision to form a new government under the leadership of NC Parliamentary Party (PP) leader in Koshi Province, Uddhav Thapa. The government will be led by the ruling parties on a rotational basis as per the preliminary agreement.

Acting Chairman of the CPN (Unified Socialist) Rajendra Pandey told media persons that the meeting decided to form the government under the leadership of NC for the first time in Koshi Province. "On behalf of the parties in the alliance, it has been decided to advise Uddhav Thapa, the leader of the NC PP, to move forward as the chief minister," he said.

In Koshi, CPN-UML leader Hikmat Kumar Karki was dismissed from office last Friday after he failed to receive a vote of confidence. Koshi Province Governor Parshuram Khapung had called for government formation on Sunday. But there was a dispute between NC and CPN-(Maoist Center) as to who would lead the government first.
