Janamorcha's Durga Paudel picked for Presidential nomination to National Assembly

KATHMANDU, Jan 7: The ruling alliance has concluded the division of CPN-UML seats for the upcoming National Assembly elections.

The Nepali Congress secured the highest number of 10 seats out of the total 19, stating that the CPN (Unified Socialist) Party would be granted the chairmanship in the National Assembly. However, as no formal agreement has been drafted for assigning the National Assembly Speaker to the CPN (Unified Socialist) party, the likelihood of obtaining it is very low.

As per the allocation, the CPN (Maoist Center) received 6 seats, the CPN (Unified Socialist) party got 2 seats, and the Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) secured one seat.

Following the Sunday meeting at Baluwatar, the official residence of the Prime Minister, Nepali Congress (NC) Chief Whip Ramesh Lekhak announced that the alliance's division had been finalized.

According to him, NC will receive one seat in Koshi province, one in Madhesh province, two in Bagmati province, two in Gandaki, and two in Sudurpaschim province. Similarly, it has been agreed that NC will receive one seat each in Karnali and Lumbini provinces.

The CPN (Maoist Center) is set to obtain one seat in Koshi province, one in Bagmati province, one in Gandaki province, one in Lumbini province, one in Karnali province, and one in Sudurpaschim province. Additionally, the CPN (Unified Socialist) party is set to receive one seat each in Bagmati and Karnali provinces. The top three leaders are now slated to convene and finalize the cluster.

Sources, meanwhile, revealed that an agreement has been reached among the coalition partners to pick Durga Paudel, the Vice-Chairperson of Rastriya Janamorha, for the Presidentials nomination.
