KATHMANDU, Aug 21: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has announced that it will participate in the local by-elections. Following a meeting of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee under the House of Representatives on Thursday, RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane briefly responded to questions from the media.
Lamichhane said that discussions within the party have begun regarding how to proceed with the by-elections, and a decision will be made after further deliberations on the party’s approach to the elections.
RSP seeks explanation from General Secretary Dhakal
“As a political party, there is no question of not participating in elections. We are currently discussing it,” he said.
According to the Election Commission, there are 34 vacant positions at the local level in the country, including mayors and deputy mayors, rural municipality chairpersons and vice chairpersons, and ward chairpersons.
The government is preparing to announce the date for the local by-elections, and the Election Commission has already called for information to update the voter list for these vacant positions.
