Rs 3.98 billion allocated for courts

KATHMANDU, July 14: The government has allocated Rs 3.98 billion for the courts in the budget speech of the fiscal year 2015/16. The budget allocated for 2015/16 is around 280 million more than the budget provided to the court in the fiscal year 2014/16.

Last year government had allocated Rs 3.49 billion for the courts in budget speech and provided around Rs 200 million extra to the courts. The budget speech has stressed implementation of the Third Strategic Plan of the judiciary. The budget allocated to the courts is only around 0.48 percent of the total budget.


Likewise, the government has allocated Rs 50.89m to the Judicial Council for the fiscal year 2015 while Rs 644 million has been allocated to the Office of Attorney General.

Meanwhile, the government has allocated Rs 120m to the National Human Rights Commission. Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has also stated in the budget speech that budget needed to facilitate the task of the two commissions related to the peace process -- the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission for the Investigation of the Enforced Disappearance - have been allocated with priority.
