Current Executive Chairman Kamal Thapa and senior leader Prakash Chandra Lohani are all set to contest for the party leadership.

Top leaders Thapa, Lohani, Pashupati SJB Rana and Lokendra Bahadur Chand had develped a consensus two days ago to elect Thapa as the party chairman unanimously but the agreement failed by Thursday evening.

Issuing a press release, Lohani said that the agreement between the four leaders turned meaningless as Thapa moved unilaterally ignoring the agreements made during the time of party unification.

Lohani has alleged Thapa of bringing in new party statute without maintaining plough (halo) as the election symbol of the unified party ignoring the agreement made during the unification. Likewise, he has claimed that Thapa prepared the statute and included a provision of nominating vice-chairpersons and general secretaries instead of the agreement made to elect at least half of them.

RPP is the fourth largest party in the parliament with 37 lawmakers.
