KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The Unity General Convention of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is being held in Kathmandu on Wednesday. The inaugural ceremony of the general convention is scheduled to start at 1PM at Bhrikutimandap.
According to senior RPP leader Budhiman Tamang, leaders from various political parties including the Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (NC), Sher Bahadur Deuba have been invited to the inaugural ceremony.
Thapa and Lingden in the fray for RPP chairmanship
As many as 5000 representatives will be taking part in the general convention to elect the party’s new leadership along with 149 central committee members, Tamang said. “The general convention will strengthen the party and help us to move the party forward,” he added.
RPP leaders Kamal Thapa and Rajendra Lingden have announced their candidacies for the post of party chairman. While Thapa is favored by Tamang and other leaders, Lingden has the support of Prakash Chandra Lohani.
Meanwhile, former General Secretary of RPP, Lingden has urged Thapa to retire from active politics and hand over the leadership to the younger generation. Speaking with media persons on Tuesday, Lingden said “Understand the voices of the members, retire from the chairman post.”
