KATHMANDU, Aug 25: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has expelled three of its provincial lawmakers for joining the Bagmati provincial government in defiance of the party’s directives and whip.

A formal letter regarding the action has been registered at the Bagmati Provincial Assembly Secretariat. RPP Chief Whip Kumari Tamang handed the expulsion letter, along with eight supporting documents, to Deputy Speaker Apsara Chapagain.
According to party spokesperson Mohan Shrestha, the three were punished for repeatedly defying directives from the party center, its whip and decisions of the Central Working Committee by joining the provincial government.
Shrestha said the party informed the provincial assembly of their expulsion through a statement and letter signed by Chair Lingden.
Earlier on Monday, the RPP had also removed Uddhav Thapa as leader of its Bagmati Provincial Assembly parliamentary party.
Thapa had supported CPN UML lawmaker Kiran Thapa Magar to become chief minister, against the party’s policy and directives.
The RPP has been facing growing internal tensions over the formation of the Bagmati provincial government and power sharing arrangements.
